What is the 'Ike Hawai'i Distance Learning Program

It is a unique Kamehameha Schools program that encourages all high school students to enroll in interactive distance learning courses with an 'Ike Hawai'i focus. All high school students (DOE, Charter Schools, private school, etc.) may apply to this program.

Why should I enroll in this program?

Technology is constantly emerging and evolving. This which makes it critical for all students, like yourself, to gain and practice 21st century skills to ensure you will be prepared for any future path you decide to take. In this program, you will be able to accomplish this while learning about and connecting to your culture. Qualified, caring teachers are also readily available to assist you and optional, field trips related to what you are learning are planned each semester.

How much is the fee?

There is no charge for instruction. . Registration fees are $50.00 per course. Fee waivers are available. E-mail ikehawaii@ksbe.edu to request a fee waiver.

What if I don't complete the Kamehameha Schools Online Orientation prerequisite requirement?

It is essential for students to complete the prerequisite requirements in preparation for distance learning courses. Students who do not finish will not be enrolled in their distance learning course.

How do my credits transfer to my school?

Upon satisfactory completion of each course, students will receive a Kamehameha Schools Distance Learning semester credit. Equivalency value of the credit is determined by the school to which the credit will be transferred.

What is an 'Ike Hawai'i Distance Learning Certificate?

Upon satisfactory completion of 4 'Ike Hawai'i distance learning courses, you will receive a Kamehameha Schools 'Ike Hawai'i Certificate to provide a record of achievement.

Can I choose to take only one distance learning course and not complete the 'Ike Hawai'i Distance Learning Certificate?

Absolutely. Once you have been accepted into the program, there are no restrictions on the number of distance learning courses you decide to complete.

Can Continental U.S. high school students apply?

Absolutely. The program is open to all high school students who are interested in learning about the Hawaiian culture.

Do I need to apply again to enroll in distance learning courses every semester?

If you complete each distance learning course with a satisfactory grade, you will be given the opportunity to pre-register for the following semester's distance learning course.

Is the 'Ike Hawai'i Distance Learning Program a preference or non-preference program?

The 'Ike Hawai'i Distance Learning Program is a non-preference program. All students interested in learning more about Hawaiian culture and history are encouraged to apply.
